ENG: About me

My name is Erik Wirdheim and I am originally from Halmstad, Sweden, but since 2005 I live in Vilanova i la Geltrú - a coastal town in Catalonia (Spain), located 30 minutes southwest of the Barcelona Airport (El Prat).

Education-wise, I have a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Lund University and have also studied a number of languages, where – a part from my native Swedish – the strongest ones are English, Czech, Spanish and Catalan, but I also speak German and Russian and make myself understood in French and Polish.

I run Puck Import, S.L., - the official distributor in Spain for the leading Nordic condom brand RFSU. My objective is to convert this company into a first-stop-shop for businesses which want to expand into Spain, Sweden, the Czech Republic or several European countries and need a multilingual sales agent for their initial market entry. As part of my company’s marketing activities, I actively build my skills as content and community manager for blogs and social media.

Earlier in in my career, I spent ten years working for the Swedish Duni group - a international supplier to the retail and HoReCa industries. I held various positions (Controller, Business Unit Manager and Sales Manager) in different countries (Sweden, Poland, Czech Republic, Thailand and Spain) and used to be appreciated for my qualities as a team leader.

As for my spare time, I am on the one hand dedicated to fitness and sports, and on the other to exploring the area where we now live; the cava and wine region Penedès. I am fascinated by the vibrant folk culture and actively help tourists to explore it through the web-service Discover Penedès. On top of that, I am a member of the local team Bordegassos de Vilanova which builds typical Catalan human towers (castells).

Motivation-wise, I can probably be said to embody the term lifelong learning. Recently, I again took up my studies of Russian. What triggered me was a desire to contribute to the tourism industry in Catalonia – as you will understand I made up my mind before Diputació de Barcelona decided that Russia is not a priority market - but now I will not stop since this language is so uniquely beautiful.

What is the function of the blog Wirdheim in Vilanova?

Wirdheim in Vilanova is a tool which motivates me to learn more about the society where I have voluntarily moved with my family. Ir is also a forum where I can try the thought and ideas I formulate when I discover local society and its culture.

In addition, the blog is an example of how I - who have grown up as monolingual - struggle to become truly bilingual or multilingual, although I know that is quite a challenge.
