Penedès Municipalities Cut Back on Remuneration for Politicians

In order to save public money, the new local government of Vilanova i la Geltrú (Garraf) will only have two councillors employed full time, while the others will be compensated on a part-time basis. At the same time in el Vendrell (Baix Penedès), the budget to remunerate politicians will be cut back with some 200.000 Euros.

The measures will obviously not be enough to appease the indignados – the protesters which until recently have been camping in central squares all around Spain – but I would still suggest that we recognize them as steps in the right direction.
