Wirdheim in Vilanova

General Strike in Spain

Today, September 29, was the day for the big general strike throughout Spain and our children, like most of their friends, have been home from school. Foreign media have highlighted problems in, for example, air travel but although that should not be underestimated, it is worth emphasizing that we had been warned about this date for quite some time.

Here in Vilanova i la Geltrú many stores avoided to open in the morning, but in the afternoon they were mostly back to normal. The local manifestation organized by the trade unions CC.OO. and UGT was much bigger than I had expected. At the same time, I was surprised not to recognize any of those who participated. Can it be that Vilanova is bigger than I want to believe?

Facebook does Not Want to be Friends Anymore

Joves Amiguets del Latex 4de9 Vilanova

Yesterday, Facebook deactivated my account (and thereby also the pages which my company works with) and I was not particularly amused. It all happened without any warning, which means that I must have committed a gross violation of the network rules. I guess that my casteller condoms have been reported as "pornographic", since I cannot think of any other reason. Until this can be solved - one way or the other - I ask you to contact me via e-mail or Twitter (Wirdheim, CondonesYSexo and SalutiSexe).

Human Towers – Diada d'Albert Salvany

Last Saturday Bordegassos de Vilanova built human towers to honour Albert Salvany, a former team member. For us, the "home team", it was probably the last chance of this season to build a tower of eight levels. We did not take it - our attempt at a 4de8 was dismantled uncrowned (intent desmuntat). We completed a 5de7, but saw both our 4de7 amb agulla and a pilar de 5 collapse.

Our guests were Moixiganguers d'Igualada and Xicots de Vilafranca. The former team impressed me with 3de7 amb agulla where the pillar showed true fighting spirit, but also completed 4de7, 3de7 and pilar de 5. The latter team could have been bolder, I think, because it is high time for them to reach top form and here they were almost at home. What we saw Xicots complete was 5de7, 4de7 amb agulla, 3de7 and pilar de 5.

Molta merda a tots els castellers penedesencs!

Coming Sunday it is time for the bi-annual Concurs de Castells and I will keep my fingers crossed for all our "local" teams: May Castellers de Vilafranca give us yet another super performance, and may Nens del Vendrell and Xicots de Vilafranca surpass themselves.
