On the Friday June 10, the label of origin Denominació d’Origen Penedès celebrated its 50th anniversary with a ceremony in Banyeres del Penedès (Baix Penedès). In his speech, Francesc Pascual i Subirana, president of the D.O. Penedès supervising body, among other things pointed out that this was the first area in Spain to have ecologic vineyards and that wines from here are being sold in over 140 countries. The event counted on the presence of Catalan prime minister Artur Mas.
