New elections in Catalonia certainly would not please the voters and, based on the figures from yesterday, the internal balance between PSC and CiU probably would not change much. So what would be the benefit?

Is there not a nasty rumour on the Catalan left that CiU always is prepared to settle for money? Wouldn't that be a better outcome this time - a modernisation of the railway network, reductions of the highway tolls etc.?

Well, after today it seems that PSOE/PSC will try to manage without a preferred partner. That possibly makes life easier for CiU, but I don't think it's good for Catalonia.Erik Wirdheimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11761766313024185298noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6709628234185282197.post-61362121386123388862008-03-10T13:29:00.000+01:002008-03-10T13:29:00.000+01:00"But if Catalan politicians play their cards well,..."But if Catalan politicians play their cards well, these can be relatively good years for Catalonia."

- yeah but what will CiU demand in exchange for backing-up the PSOE in Madrid? An end to the Entesa Tripartit in Barcelona, I reckon. That would mean yet another Catalan government will be demolished becuase of political machinations in Madrid.

Still, at least the poster printers will be kept in business :-)Tomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06562902749398922096noreply@blogger.com
